Biographies

Shelly Peiken | Multi-Platinum & GRAMMY-Nominated Songwriter

Shelly Peiken has been a prolific, behind-the-scenes force in the music business for more than three decades. She is best known for co-penning culturally resonant, female-empowerment anthems such as Christina Aguilera’s No. 1 hit, “What a Girl Wants” and Meredith Brooks’ “Bitch,” GRAMMY-nominated for Best Rock Song.

She has written for The Pretenders, Keith Urban, Britney Spears, Brandy, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Celine Dion, Michelle Branch, Natasha Bedingfield, Bebe Rexha — the list is long. Her songs have appeared in many films and television shows.

The audio version of her book Confessions of a Serial Songwriter earned Shelly a second GRAMMY nomination for Best Spoken Word Album. The memoir chronicles her journey from a young girl falling under the spell of magical songs to writing hits of her own.

She is the recipient of the 2021 Hollywood Music and Media Singer-Songwriter Award and a 2023 SheRocks Honoree.

Shelly is a founding member of SONA, an advocacy organization that fights for fair compensation for creators in a digital age.

David Quan | Head of Licensing & Administration, The Greater Goods Co.

David Quan is a 30-year veteran of the music industry and is an expert in all facets of Music Publishing. He is currently the Head of Licensing & Administration at The Greater Goods Co. His duties include business affairs, licensing, copyright, and royalties. He has worked for such notable companies as Leiber & Stoller, All Nations Music, Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., BMG, Universal Records, peermusic, Sony Pictures Entertainment, NBCUniversal, Angry Mob Music. Quan holds a B.S. Degree in Marketing from the California State University, Los Angeles and an MBA with a concentration in Corporation Finance from USC. He was a two-term President of the California Copyright Conference and is a member of the Association of Independent Music Publishers, Guild of Music Supervisors, Songwriters of North America, and The Society of Composers and Lyricists.

Emmy Meli | Singer-Songwriter

Even on four hours sleep, Emmy Meli, a singer from California, would always journal. During her shifts at the coffee shop, the 22-year-old scribbled between serving tables. While delivering drinks on the golf course, she’d steal glances at her notebook. Then on her day-off, Meli would record the week’s writings. Tackling in one such session, an anthemic track inspired by a recent dream—the song soon to be heard around the world was titled, “I Am Woman.”

Indeed, Meli gained popularity after posting “I Am Woman” to TikTok, where it garnered 22 million views. She says she wrote the song to “empower women” and called seeing the song resonate with listeners “the most amazing and beautiful thing” she has experienced.

With Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill as idols, it was perhaps inevitable that Meli would feel most fulfilled as a mouthpiece for contemporary feminism. Coupling a powerful message with hypnotic vocal stylings that straddle jazz, R&B, pop and funk, now, Emmy Meli just has one job, and the singer is poised for a pop takeover.

MILCK | Recording Artist, Writer, Producer, Artivist*

MILCK (Connie K. Lim) is a recording artist, writer, producer, and artivist,* who is known for her power anthems that have become the soundtrack to grassroots movements all over the world. Her song “Quiet” is known as the unofficial anthem of the Women’s March and has been listed Billboard’s No. 1 Protest Song of the year, and an official selection on NPR’s “American Anthem” series. Her music has been translated into multiple languages by choirs all over the world and has had shared stages with the likes of Oprah, Jason Mraz, Yoko Ono, Amanda Gorman, Michelle Obama, and Ani DiFranco. MILCK is beginning to explore writing for other artists as well, including “Mystery of Me” for Phillipa Soo, “Shh” by Linying, and “Stardust” for John Legend.

In times of destruction, this Planned Parenthood Champion of Choice urges her fans to tap into their creativity. In the words of Grace Lee Boggs, “A revolution that is based on the people exercising their creativity in the midst of devastation is one of the great historical contributions of humankind.”

She continues to create music with fierce joy, while also hanging out with her 22-year-old turtle named Speedy.

ShyBoy | Recording Artist, Composer, DJ/Producer

ShyBoy is a recording artist, composer, and DJ/producer whose music has been featured in numerous films, video games, trailers, and television programs, including RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dynasty, America’s Next Top Model, Halloween, and more. He composed the score for the Shudder/AMC documentary series Queer For Fear: The History of Queer Horror, from executive producer Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies). Nominated for a 2023 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary, the show features several songs from ShyBoy’s new LP His Royal Shyness.

Named Best Solo Artist in LA Weekly’s Best of L.A. awards and the winner of a Hollywood Music in Media Award (for best Alternative performance with his band Hypnogaja). ShyBoy has shared stages with artists such as Flo Rida, Meiko, Shinedown, Saliva, and Amanda Palmer.  His collaborators include the Emmy-winning superstar RuPaul; hip-hop artist SlimKid3 (The Pharcyde); Grammy-nominated songwriter Wendy Waldman; and Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning songwriter Allee Willis. ShyBoy’s work as a producer and DJ includes the creation of the legendary dance party MaDonna Summer and remixes/mashups for RuPaul, Whitney Houston, Julia Fordham, Donna Summer, The B-52’s (2022 farewell tour), and an array of other artists.

Michael Eames | President, PEN Music Group, Inc.

Michael Eames is a trained composer, songwriter, and pianist who majored in music at Cornell University and completed the Certificate Program in Film Scoring at UCLA Extension; he also secured a minor in Business Management from Cornell.

As president of PEN, Eames oversees all aspects of the operation as well as focusing on pitching the catalogue to all media and business development. He was chosen to serve (along with four other independent music publishers and five songwriters) on the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee (UROC) of The Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) that commenced blanket mechanical licensing of the digital services in the U.S. on January 1, 2021. He also proudly serves on the Independent Publishers Advisory Council (IPAC) of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and on the Advisory Board of Songwriters Of North America (SONA). He also previously served as the National President of the Association Of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) from 2015–2018 and served as its National Vice President from 2013–2014.

Amanda Tufeld | Sr. Director, Creative Services, Kobalt Music

Now in her fifth year at Kobalt, Amanda Tufeld has seen multiple successes, including inking a global publishing deal with producer Raul Cubina (one half of the duo OjiVolta). Cubina’s contributions include co-writing Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “INDUSTRY BABY,” which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Tufeld has a knack for identifying early rising stars and artist development. She has brought in deals with TikTok sensation Tai Verdes, who penned the 2x certified Platinum single “A-O-K”; producer King Henry (Diplo, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, LANY); Social House (Ariana Grande); and Emmy Meli, whose viral song “I AM WOMAN” is now certified Gold.

Tufeld is also responsible for helping run point on some of Kobalt’s most notable clients such as Roget (Doja Cat, Drake), Andrew Goldstein (Blackbear, Maroon 5, LANY), Jesse St. John (Lizzo, Nicky Youre), Pablo Bowman (Marshmello, Ava Max, Bebe Rexha), Andrew Wyatt (Miley Cyrus, Florence and the Machine, Lorde), Leah Kate, Noah Cyrus, and Ashe. Looking ahead, Amanda is eager to champion and run alongside the up-and-coming careers of her more recent signings such as Jake Wesley Roger, Zach Hood, and renforshort.
