    Biographies

    Cheryl Dickerson | Music Industry Consultant

    Cheryl Dickerson is formerly the executive producer of Music Knowledge Institute, a music resource dedicated to empowering individuals with the information necessary to make knowledgeable decisions about their music career. This institute was created to educate and motivate those by providing the tools needed to help meet their objectives, such as one-on-one mentoring, workshops, seminars, and music sessions. Ms. Dickerson continues to devote time assisting songwriters and producers with publishing issues, exploiting catalogues, collaborations, and general consulting.

    Previously, Ms. Dickerson held the title of Senior Director/Writer-Publisher Relations at Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) in Los Angeles, where she was responsible for affiliating songwriters and publishers and guiding them in furthering their careers, also creating, and producing workshops and showcases. For several years she produced the successful “Acoustic in Black” monthly showcase in Hollywood, and she co-produced the Urban Focus 2-day conference held in Hollywood at the Musicians Institute. At BMI, she affiliated such writers as Snoop Dogg, Daz, Black Eyed Peas, Christina Milian, Teena Marie, and Macy Gray. She has also produced showcases across the country for the music publication, Black Renaissance Exclusive (BRE).

    Ms. Dickerson held the position of Vice President of Artists and Repertoire at Epic/Sony Music, securing songs and producers, overseeing budgets, coordinating recording schedules for such acts as Teena Marie, Luther Vandross, Shabba Ranks. She also acted as a liaison between Sony and the subsidiary labels owned by Kenny (Babyface) and Tracey Edmonds, John Singleton, and Clarence Avant.

    Prior to that, Ms. Dickerson was Senior Director of Artists and Repertoire at MCA Records working closely with such acts as New Edition, Bobby Brown, Patti La Belle, Gladys Knight, Heavy D, Teddy Riley, Pebbles and Stephanie Mills. In this capacity, she was the first A&R person to utilize the talents of Dallas Austin and the production team, L A (Reid) & Babyface. She began her career as A&R coordinator at Capitol Records working with such acts as Frankie Beverly and Maze, A Taste of Honey, Ronnie Laws, Freddie Jackson and George Clinton.

    Born in Washington, DC, Ms. Dickerson spent her childhood in Phila., PA. She attended Cheyney State College where she studied Sociology. Ms. Dickerson often speaks at music seminars and conferences. She served a term as Vice President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Recording Arts and Science (NARAS); she is a past Grammy Host Committee member. Her professional affiliations include NARAS, National Association of Female Executives, AIMP, NAACP. She has served on the board of the California Copyright Conference for over 20 years and held the title of Secretary and Treasurer(15 years) and is currently Treasurer to the California Copyright Conference Scholarship Fund.


    Sarah Brockman | Owner, Bardic Inspiration Music Services

    Sarah Brockman’s background includes experience across various aspects of the music industry. She began her career at the majors, handling film, tv, video game, and advertising clearances (both publishing and master sides) for BMG and Warner Chappell / Warner Records Group. She has also worked at the music library Audio Network, where she became deeply familiar with the quickly-changing royalty structures for composers in the reality TV and streaming spaces. Currently, Sarah works in music clearance and licensing, supporting shows such as Behind the Music, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and Come Dance with Me as part of their clearance teams. She also works as a freelance copyright researcher, artist consultant, and license administrator for several independent companies and artists.

    With this decade of expertise, Sarah aims to create a music industry where writers and artists of all levels can build healthy revenue streams and collect fair payment for their art and efforts.


    Tasso Smith | Director A&R, Audio Network

    Tasso Smith is a passionate and creative music industry executive with over 15 years of experience, starting off as an artist and recording musician, then engineer and producer finally making his way into A&R.  His career highlights include a Gold top 10 alternative single with his band Youngblood Hawke, signing EBBA award winning artist Youngr and BMI award winning writer Sam Derosa to Warner Chappell and most recently becoming Director of A&R for the US at Audio Network where he currently works.  He loves connecting creative individuals to meaningful opportunities in the industry and sharing his insights and experience with is peers.
