Biographies

Garrett M. Johnson, Esq. | Law Offices of Garrett M. Johnson

Garrett Johnson is a member of the Bars of New York and the District of Columbia specializing in entertainment and tax law.  Currently representing a cross spectrum of creative talent and industry participants including musicians, authors, recording artists, composers, screenwriters, playwrights, record producers, artist management companies, independent film makers and record labels, Mr. Johnson is also active in the provision of music publishing administration services and the facilitation of Trademark applications, as well as general business formation.  Active with the Entertainment Law Forum of the American Bar Association, Past President of the California Copyright Conference (CCC), Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) and the Independent Gospel Artists Alliance (IGAA), Mr. Johnson speaks regularly on legal and business issues in the entertainment industry in a variety of venues.  Prior to entering private practice, he was an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., providing counsel to agency staff in legislative, personnel and intellectual property matters.  He received his A.B. in economics from Columbia University and J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Kenneth D. Freundlich | Freundlich Law

In his 35 years of practice, Ken has primarily focused on resolving complex business, entertainment, and IP disputes and is renowned for representing individuals and companies with his pragmatic aggressiveness, relatability, business acumen, and ability to handle everything from everyday business disputes to complex, ground-breaking cases.

Ken is a seasoned litigator and trial counsel licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of New York and California (among other courts) and has had notable successes in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings  in various settings ranging from California Labor Commission proceedings, to IFTA, Guild, and AAA/JAMS arbitrations, to Copyright Rate Court proceedings, to trial and appellate courts (including the United States Supreme Court). Ken is a well-known participant and moderator in panels concerning entertainment law issues.

Ken’s experience also includes a stint as the Executive Vice President of Atomic Pop, LLC, an early 2000’s internet-based record company (way ahead of its time) that sought to provide a platform to distribute entertainment content through digital media. At Atomic Pop, Ken was part of the company’s leadership team, navigating through complicated new media legal and business issues, acquisitions, strategic and financial planning, syndication, joint ventures and due diligence management.

A proud graduate of UCLA’s joint JD/MBA program, Ken is one of the few litigators who does not shy away from the quantitative or business side of cases. Whether it is grilling the opposing party’s experts about complex royalty statements, unraveling a party’s intricate corporate structures and related corporate issues, or negotiating and drafting an agreement to resolve a dispute or pave a way forward in business to maximize a client’s bottom line, Ken’s varied education and experience give him a bespoke set of skills with which to serve his clients.

Loren Mulraine, Esq. | Professor of Law, Director of Music and Entertainment Law Studies, Belmont University College of Law, Of Counsel, Spencer Fane, LLP

Loren Mulraine is a law professor, entertainment attorney, and advocate for creator’s rights.  As Director of Music and Entertainment Law Studies at Belmont University, his courses include Intellectual Property, Copyright, Entertainment Law, Entertainment Practice, Film & Television Transactions, Media Law, and Sports Law. His scholarship interests include the intersection of IP and social/economic justice, global IP rights, and entrepreneurship.  Mr. Mulraine’s transactional practice focuses on music, film and television clients and covers a full range of issues in IP, business, contracts, copyright terminations, business expansion and start-ups, and sales and purchase of publishing catalogs.  His clients have included Grammy and Dove award-winners, Gold and Platinum-selling artists and writers, management companies, producers, filmmakers, and indie record labels.  Prior to joining Belmont in 2012, he served as a professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where he chaired the Department of Recording Industry and served as interim Associate Dean of the College of Mass Communication.  He previously worked as a government contracts attorney with the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Mulraine is also a noted gospel artist, songwriter and producer with six solo albums and several singles commercially released.  His studio credits include performing as a vocalist on the Grammy award-winning “Tribute: The Songs of Andrae’ Crouch.”

Benjamin Seilhamer

Benjamin is a copyright enthusiast and avid musician of over 15 years currently studying the legal side of the entertainment industry. Benjamin is currently achieving his Masters of Arts in Music Industry Administration through CSU Northridge and his ABA-Approved Paralegal Certification through UC San Diego, permitting him to have a unique perspective for the current state of Copyright law as it pertains to the entertainment industry. Benjamin is a current student of CSUN’s Master of Arts in Music Industry Administration program.  Benjamin is concurrently finishing up his ABA-Approved Paralegal Certificate through UCSD Extension.  In the near future, Benjamin plans to attend law school to pursue a career as a copyright attorney.
