This panel will present a comprehensive view of current issues with § 203 of the Copyright Act, otherwise known as the “35-year law,” including a basic overview of the law; a refresher on §304; statutory requirements, dates, and deadlines; review of current litigation, including Sony/ATV vs. Duran Duran and McCartney v. Sony/ATV cases; current major label objections to sound recording notices of termination and the “work for hire” controversy; artist view from recording artist Stephen Bishop, who successfully terminated a recording agreement under § 203.
